What truly transforms a home into a thriving haven. Is it the fact you have kept your sourdough starter alive for more than a week and can pop out a weekly loaf of bread, or is it the cheese you made from scratch?  Are you the organizing expert or proud that your kids are in so many extracurricular activities yet still fighting to find peace? Beyond the allure of sourdough-making or the charm of a meticulously organized space, there is something far more beneficial in the journey to unveil the essence of a thriving home.

In a world filled with myriad activities, creating a sanctuary within our homes becomes paramount. Today, we will peel back the layers of this intricate tapestry and discover the fundamental elements that lay the groundwork for a thriving home.

First and most importantly we need to stay connected to the source.  The source I am talking about is Jesus.  When we spend time in communion with Jesus, it will make a difference. It’s not just about routine; it’s about carving out sacred time to hear His voice and understand your identity. Drawing inspiration from Matthew 6:11 and Luke 11:3, these verses guide us to where His words breathe life into our daily existence. Continuous prayer, the heartbeat of a thriving home, reminds us that intentional connection with Our Father brings depth and meaning to our lives.

In Matthew 6:11 (TPT) We acknowledge you as our Provider of all we need each day. You can’t survive on one meal a week.  If you did, your body would be weak and vulnerable,  potentially exposed to sickness and lacking the nutrients you need to be sustained.

Why do so many then only feast on His words and time with him only on a Sunday morning?  He is the sustainer of our daily lives providing ALL that we need.  Life is better when we can find time with Him daily.  He is the source of wisdom, comfort, and encouragement.

What creates a Thriving Home?

Peacemaking takes center stage in understanding the dynamics of a thriving home. Matthew 5:9 illuminates the path, revealing that blessed are those who make and maintain peace, embodying the character of God. Creating a thriving home involves more than just physical aesthetics or any accolades we could get here on this side of eternity. It’s about setting a tone, curating an atmosphere where peace and joy are present even when it feels like there is chaos around.

How to have a thriving home! Keeping Peace in the Home

Creating and maintaining peace is a process, and it starts with self-reflection. Are you a peacemaker or a peace breaker?  Is how I interact with my spouse and kids creating peace or breaking peace?  Taking time to reflect on this question can help pinpoint actions that contribute to harmony and those that disrupt it.  When we are not at peace within ourselves, this most definitely will spill over into our daily lives and those around us.

How do we create peace?

Spending time with Him and knowing His Word and what He says about us and to us is invaluable.  Worship released into the atmosphere of our home is a secret weapon to inviting God’s presence.  I have playlists for days when I am fighting fear, or needing peace, or songs to release joy.

Practially speaking, ways we can cultivate peace is by cultivating intentional dinners with your husband and children, engaging in meaningful conversations, and addressing conflicts with a focus on growth. In these moments, rely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” (John 14:26)

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” (Romans 8:26)

Home should be the place you can hang up your armor, as vulnerability becomes a cornerstone. No one wants to feel like they have to suit up to come home in order to protect themselves. Practice kindness, forgive quickly, and prioritize unity in navigating challenges. Remember, it’s ‘you and him’ against obstacles, not ‘you against each other.

“The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain.” (Proverbs 31:11)

“Do everything in love.” (1 Corinthians 16:14)

Cultivating a thriving home is a journey that transcends the physical space. It’s a commitment to intentional living, where peace, connection, and purposeful actions intertwine. May your homes become a haven, radiating warmth and peace born from a life lived authentically and with purpose.
